Matira Bandhan

 
Himansu Khatua has not only earned success for making films from his own writings but has also made films written by others and greatly succeed. He has made a unique film ‘Matira Bandhana’ based on ‘Trunk of Ganesh’ by Jayanta Mohapatra. His directed another hugely successful film ‘Krantidhara’ is based on novel ‘Jhada Parara Surya’, written by Dr Iti Samanta. These films have earned several awards and huge appreciation. ‘Krantidhara’ earned State Film Awards, Asian Excellency Award in the international level and also adjudged as the best film in the South Korea Film Festival.
 
Similarly, he earned much appreciation for making telefilm ‘Prayaschita’ in Doordarshan written by legendary writer Fakir Mohan Senapati. Besides, his directed successful TV serials such as ‘Abhisapta Jarayu’ and ‘Bhagnansa’ are regarded as mile stones in the Odia television world. Besides, he has also made a documentary on Lord Akhandalamani of Odisha in 16 MM and apart from a few educational films.
 
Not only film making, but Himanshu Khatua has also organised Kalinga Global Film Festival in Odisha to make Indian films to reach the mass. Besides, he has worked as a jury member in many national and international film fests and brought laurels to Odisha as well as India.
 
Himanshu Khatua who has created a niche for himself in the cinema world has also worked as the head of the Sound Department at the Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute in Cuttack. His aim was to create competent human resources in Odia film industry and to promote Odia talents. He became a torchbearer for many students here. So far, many students of this institute have earned glory by working in Bollywood and Odia film industry after getting inspired by him. In nutshell, Himansu Khatua’s contribution towards Odia cinema is incomparable.
 
Joining KIIT was another chapter of his career. After making ‘Kathantara’ in 2005 he became close to the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and joined the institute in 2009. After getting University status different academic departments were started at KIIT. Dr Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT gave him charge as the Director General to head three departments of KIIT such as KIIT School of Films, KIIT School of Fashion and KIIT School of Mass Communication. All these three schools have earned huge recognition in the national and international level while a number of international students have joined these Departments.
 
Himansu Khatua has proved his abilities at different times in different fields with inspiration from Dr Achyuta Samanta. Keeping trust on his abilities in 2015 Dr Samanta gave him full responsibility of Kalinga TV as the Managing Director. Based on the three mantras of Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta –‘Positive’, ‘Realistic’ and ‘Constructive’ Himansu Khatua has successfully shouldered the herculean task of managing the leading TV channel. He has conceptualized a number of creative TV shows that have earned huge popularity after being telecast on Kalinga TV. And on lieu of these shows Kalinga TV has accomplished a special status in the field of media. His effort towards Odisha media is praiseworthy.
 
Himansu Khatua is known as a simple and generous person. He shares both happiness and sorrows with staff members of Kalinga TV. Not only that, he has won heart of the employees for his decent behaviour. Everybody knows him as a crisis manager. Huge patience and tolerance are his mantra of success. He believes only on work. And hence working ambience in Kalinga TV is rare and unique.
 
Not only in films, but Himansu Khatua has also earned recognition in many other fields. He has also written stories and poems.
 
His contribution towards art, literature and culture of Odisha is incomparable.
 
Himansu Khatua has shown great perseverance in filmmaking, creating talents for film industry and media leadership.
 
Government of India has appointed him as the director of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in West Bengal, a prominent film school of the country managed by the Central government. He is the first person from Odia film industry to achieve this feat.
 
No doubt, it is a matter of pride and glory for us. Lord Jagannath may bless Himansu Khatua to earn more glory for Odisha.
